Wal-Mart would purchase energy-efficient LED ceiling light for shopping malls

Wal-Mart announced a number of plans on April 9th 2014, including they would purchase energy-efficient indoor LED ceiling light,which would be used in shopping malls, major stores newly opened in U.S. Asia and Latin America as well as Britain’s ASDA supermarket ( Walmart business unit in the UK ) . Compared with the lighting sources used previously by stores, new indoor LED ceiling light will save 4% of energy consumption,which will further help Wal-Mart achieve the target that the reduction in Group’s  electricity consumption per square foot of each building (in kilowatt hours , kWh)will be by 20% before 2020. So far , this is the biggest LED lighting products procurement transactions between Wal-Mart and GE, but also is the latest example erected by Wal-Mart and GE leading in seeking and extending innovative energy-efficient lighting solutions.

    

“We have been trying to find and expand economical and efficient, high-quality energy-saving LED lighting solutions , and now by collaborating with GE will make this program becoming mainstream retail solutions.” Doug McMillon， president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores Limited said , “indoor LED ceiling light has become an integral part of energy-saving mode adopted by our stores, which plays a key role in our overall goal of achieving sustainable development，meanwhile, indoor LED ceiling light’ savings in energy costs will help us to keep prices low for the benefit of the majority of our customers . ”

In each building , the illuminated area of ??the main sales floor area is about 90% of the total lighting ; only in the United States , the implementation of indoor LED ceiling light can help to reduce energy consumption by more than 5% in each store.
